EACEA Culture Project on Network Performance in Music

Forum (November 2008)

Place/Dates: IRCAM, Paris 12-14 November 2008

Description:

IRCAM Forum Workshops

The IRCAM Forum Workshops is an event held twice each year for members of the Forum. Each workshop includes sessions of new features of existing software programs (spatialisation, motion capture, real time interaction …), presentations by industrial representatives (Yamaha, Digidesign …), works by composers using new technologies and practical training sessions.

Objective:

Dissemination of the Comedia project illustrated by specific events.

Results:

Related to one of the scenarios (“playing together one computer music application”) a conference was given on “live coding” in a network context ; another on the Ambisonics sound spatialisation format and its use in network performance ; another on a presentation of Access Grid, a network conferencing tool used in the Comedia Project. In addition, a practical “hands-on” training session was organised for fifteen participants on “live coding”. Based on the results of work done during the June IRCAM workshops, the three days  of conferences from Salle Stravinsky were streamed “live” and recorded.

Target group:

Composers, researchers, performers, music teachers.

Number of participants/visitors/audience :

• 100 at IRCAM

• 20-30 “streaming” external connections monitored every five minutes during the three days.
